What is Health Literacy?
Health Literacy encompasses people’s knowledge, motivation and competences to access, understand, appraise, and apply health information. It is a term that describes individual’s ability to comprehend and obtain healthcare information to address appropriate decisions/treatments in a particular health problem.
 
What is the objective of Asian Health Literacy Association?
The Asian Health Literacy Association (AHLA) was founded in 2013 as an independent multinational nongovernmental organization that seeks to understand health literacy levels across Asia from a research, education and policy perspective. The purpose of the association is to encourage collaborative actions and practices among researchers, officials, healthcare organizations in all career levels interested in health literacy and health promotion.
 
What does AHLA do?
AHLA aims to enhance health literacy, a core element in the social determinants for health, in an effective way to improve health care quality and to reduce health disparities between communities, groups and nations. AHLA partners with global-wise organizations and institutes which facilitate stakeholders on their interest in health literacy researches and implementations. AHLA holds an annual international conference as a key event for bringing health professionals together to promote health literacy in regional and global forums.
 
What is AHLA Conference and when does it start?
The international conferene is expected to be a platform for attracting scientists and researchers around the world to address and exchange health literacy experiences in their studies. The 2015 conference is hosted on 9-11 November; it will reflect on findings of health literacy levels within global scale, especially in countries from Asia and elsewhere.
 
What kind of support can be provided by the AHLA with regard to attending the 2015 International Conference?
AHLA does provide a few travel grants to participants coming from developing countries in Asia.  Participants who are relevant to health literacy are eligible to apply for  travel grant.  Only those with abstracts accepted by the academic committee will be eligible for the grant.
How do I become an AHLA member? What are the benefits for becoming a member?
A membership application will be forwarded to you. AHLA member is eligible to participate in the annual conference with reduced rate, to research scholarship and travel funds, as well as to access health literacy tools developed by the AHLA.
 
Is there any sponsorship/ partnership opportunity?
Yes. We are welcoming health institutions, research foundations, health service providers, administrative agencies; policies and media that are interested in health literacy to cooperate with us. Sponsoring/ Partnering AHLA brings close contact to health related field and the goal is to build a more efficient health system that protects people from health risks.
